What is Data Masking

Data masking is the process of obscuring (masking) specific data elements that identify an individual, potentially exposing customers or employees to prevent theft or other forms of privacy invasion. It ensures that sensitive data is replaced with realistic but not real data. The goal is that sensitive customer information is not available outside of the authorized environment.  more»

Ten Trends that are Driving Analytics

Ten Trends that are Driving AnalyticsAnalytics and business intelligence (BI) are here to stay. In fact, says Gartner, they have now become the primary concern of enterprise CIOs as firms seek to leverage and monetize information as business insights. Technologies such as in-memory computing, and technology capabilities such as the Big Data revolution, account for much of this drive. But these are not the only factors. And firms need help in getting a handle on the new wave of technology.

As Timo Elliott blogs at Business Analytics, analytics and business intelligence (BI) have now taken center stage in enterprise information management. Here are the ten trends Elliott identifies as drivers in analytics for 2013:

  1. According to Gartner, as firms concentrate on enterprise growth, analytics and business intelligence have become top technology priorities.
  2. As analytics matures, firms are moving up the ladder from descriptive analytics (what just happened?) to predictive analytics (what will happen next?). The next frontier: prescriptive analytics: How do we make sure it happens?
  3. In-memory computing is not just faster: It is a game changer, revolutionizing the way we think about information systems.
  4. As one example, in-memory is breaking down barriers, such as between structured and unstructured data.
  5. As a further example, in-memory means that analytics and operations are no longer separate: Real-time analytics is now a reality.
  6. Big data is big. The challenge now is integrating Big Data into the corporate operating environment.
  7. Analytics is moving to the core of information infrastructure – for example, becoming integral to the manufacturing process.
  8. Optimizing the user experience is no longer an option; it is a necessity. Users want fast, flexible interfaces they can work with on the fly.
  9. Information has become an asset – posing organizational challenges as operating units take ownership from IT.
  10. Information governance and ensuring information quality are becoming essential, unfinished tasks.

In short, analytics and BI are no longer experimental possibilities – they have moved to the heart of business competitiveness. Let GRT Corporation show how your company can harness these technologies without being overwhelmed by them.
